LÍGIA PINTO WAS ELLECTED PRESIDENT OF THE PORTUGUESE ASSOCIATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND SANITARY ENGENEERING-APESB

Lígia Pinto, Associate Professor of the Economics Department of the School of Economics and Management of the University of Minho, was elected President of the APESB- Portuguese Association of Environmental.
The APESB is a non-governmental organization, founded in 1980, interested on the study, development and promotion of the knowledge about water and residues environmental sectors.
On the action plan presented, the organisation of national and international events stands out as well as several other actions that, together, allow the reinforcement of the APESB’s role as a facilitator of the implementation of efficient solutions that promote the innovation, sustainability, efficiency and efficacy of the water and residues services. Other key activities include the promotion of partnerships with associations that represent different economic sectors, especially those that enable industrial symbioses with Water and Residues sectors, the identification of mutual interest areas with municipal entities, in particular that of the promotion of more sustainable and smart cities, the promotion of the participation of APESB on activities of ISWA, IWA, EWA and WEF, and the respective specialized groups. Further activities include the promotion of the national discloser of developed activities on the residues area, the water management area, for consume in diverse uses, or for residual and pluvial and the regular edition of the “Água & Resíduos” magazine, in an electronic format, and with the promotion of Portuguese Speaking Countries.
The Directive Council of APESB, is also composed by Engineer Paula Campos (AGERE), by Engineer Pedro Bastos (Águas do Norte), by Professor Nídia de Sá Caetano (ISEP) and by the Engineer Pedro Álvaro (Águas do Tejo Atlântico). The inauguration took place on May 7th of 2021.
