NIPE researchers Lígia Pinto and Marieta Valente published a book on Environmental Economics

Lígia Pinto and Marieta Valente, Professors of the Department of Economics of the School of Economics and Management and NIPE members, published a book named “Economia do Ambiente: Conceitos e desenvolvimentos“, in cooperation with Cristina Chaves, Professor at FEP.

Environmental Economics is considered a subfield of Economic Science, addressing issues shared by social and human sciences, natural and environmental sciences, and engineering. From a research perspective, matters such as climate change, sustainability, pollution and environmental policy have been contributing to the recognition of research in environmental economics and policy.

The book published by NIPE’s researchers will provide learning support to students of Economics, Management and Environmental Sciences in the 1st and 2nd cycle of higher education, being a working tool for researchers and professionals with an interest in the issues covered by this book.

In addition, Lígia Pinto also coordinated an inaugural work belonging to the Strategic Collection of the National Library of Portugal “Pobreza e fome, uma história contemporânea. Temas, metodologias e estudos de caso“.  This book refers to some of the most relevant themes for an understanding of the problems of poverty and hunger in modern Portugal, promoting a reflection on environmental degradation, inequality, and social discrimination, considering issues such as racism, over-exploitation of humans and non-humans, gender issues, pollution and climate change. It is published under the current IHC programmatic project.
